Local businesses build a small town with tight-knit charm to the area. The local businesses of Carlisle have built a camaraderie with each other and with the residents of Carlisle. There is something so special about shopping in a store that is unique and the store staff/owners know you by name. 

Pomfret Street

A portion of Pomfret is known as the SO-Hi Arts District. Find locally made pottery at K. Olsen Ceramics. Get your favorite local work of art custom framed at Pat Craig Studios or find a great piece in the store. If you are a woman interested in clothing you can't find everywhere check out Boutique on Pomfret. Find great local wines from around that state at Castlerigg Wine Shop. Taste before you buy at the wine bar. Not far away is one of Carlisle's best local restaurants Spoons Cafe located in one of Carlisle's charming historic homes. 

Hanover Street

Hanover Street is the place to be for vintage finds and antiques. Stop by the Carlisle Antique Mall housed in the historic Montgomery Ward building that was built in 1918 featuring four floors of vendors.

Hanover Street is home to several restaurants Market Cross Pub and Brewery has been there for over 20 years. If you love a good steak check out the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion where you are served an expertly cooked cut from Newville's Eleven Oaks Farms.

High Street

High Street is considered somewhat the Main Street of the borough for dining. Any type of food you are in the mood for you can find it on High Street. Don't miss the small storefront for Tacqueria Laurita, because the food is packed with big Mexican flavors. Hamilton Restaurant serves up Carlisle's iconic Hot-Chee-Dog. Grab something from the simple yet tasty menu at Grand Illusion Hard Cider to go with locally brewed favorites like Mystic Citra Pineapple hard cider and a range of other unique and local cider flavors. Stop in on Mondays for the Family Friendly Table Magic. 

If you want something for dessert stop in at Helena's Chocolate Cafe and Creperie. Or indulge in Leo's Homemade Ice Cream. It was ranked one of America's best ice cream stores.

Local Festivals and Activities

Carlisle is considered a college town with the presence of Dickinson College. There's always something free to enjoy going on at the college. In addition, there are many great local festivities and events that happen in Carlisle for fun and entertainment all through the year.

The Carlisle Fairgrounds is just outside the borough with several different local events including several car shows. In the winter events like the Christmas tree lighting and winter wonderland bring residents out into the streets of Carlisle to enjoy local vendors and gift shopping in some of the cheeriest atmosphere. The Ice Art Festival is always something fun to begin the year as January feels like it drags on.
