Christmas in Cumberland County 2023

Christmas in Cumberland County 2023Living in Central Pennsylvania during Christmas is something special. If you are making a move to the area during this time you might wonder what there is to do here and how you can get acclimated to your new home and get comfortable. We have put together a list of holiday events throughout the county to help you get to know the area.

The Carlisle Borough is always one of the first to kick off the season with Winter Wonderland Weekend. Last weekend the township hosted its traditional holiday kickoff which is a big popular event in the county. They held their events beginning Thanksgiving Weekend through December 3. This is a long-standing tradition with a parade to start things off. The festival lasts through the week with fun events and ends with the community tree lighting in Carlisle Square.

Other communities also have tree lighting ceremonies that take place the first weekend in December they include Mount Holly Springs, Middlesex Township, Shippensburg, and more.

Boiling Springs has a fun twist on the tree lighting ceremony and festivities happen every weekend through December until the new year. Every year they light 400 luminaries weather permitting. Their initial lighting with Santa has taken place, and they do a relighting of luminaries every weekend if the weather cooperates.

On December 6 from 6 to 8 the Silver Spring Township hosts Winter's Night and Sleigh Rides at the Fire Hall. The event has activities both inside and outside. There are pictures with Santa, sleigh rides, food trucks, craft vendors, and live music.

Camp Hill waits a little bit later this year for their annual tree lighting, which is nice to allow you to experience other community tree lightings and still enjoy the one in Camp Hill. Camp Hill will have its lighting on December 7th at 6 pm. Santa and Mrs. Clause will be in attendance for the first hour. There is a parade of lights to benefit Toys for Tots from 6 to 8:30 the following night on December 8th in Camp Hill at Willow Park.

East Pennsboro Township hosts Holiday Lights in the Park at Adams-Ricci Community Park on December 7,8, and 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. This is a fun drive-through light display with a suggested $5 donation per car.

Shippensburg is host to the Volvo annual lights drive on Dec 7 through the 10th. This is a free light display event to enjoy with thousands of lights and inflatable displays.

Take a tour of Old Newville on a horse-drawn carriage ride on December 9 from 11 am to 3 pm. It is suggested that you make reservations. You can make them on the Benchfield Farms website. You can also enjoy the pop-up Christmas shop and photos with Santa. This event is hosted by the Newvill Historical Society.

On December 14th enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides and photos with Santa in New Cumberland. This event will happen at the same time as the regular Food Truck and Restaurant Rally event that occurs on the second Tuesday of every month.

If you are a fan of Christmas movies you can enjoy all of your favorites on the big screen at the West Shore Theater beginning on December 14th and showing every night until Christmas Eve. Some Christmas favorites included in the lineup are Its a Wonderful Life and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. You can also enjoy movie classics at the Carlisle Theater with their Home for the Holidays film series on December 18 through 22.

Where to Get Holiday Shopping In

If you are looking for unique Christmas gifts or just to enjoy a festive small-town holiday shopping atmosphere several shopping events will happen throughout Cumberland County in 2023.

The Carlisle Expo Center will be hosting several vendor markets throughout the month. Check out the Expo Center website to get information on when they will have Christmas shopping events.

One of the largest shopping events at the expo center will be the fifth annual Winter Wonderland. The event will take place on December 16 and 17th and it is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army this year. There will be more than 100 vendors at this event and eight food trucks. Santa Clause of course will be in attendance and taking photos with his favorite people. There will be a raffle for door prizes and much more.

Check out the holiday craft and vendor show in Shippensburg at the Firefighter's Activity Center on W. Orange St. on December 16 from 10 AM to 3 PM. This will be one of the last major Christmas shopping events in Cumberland County for the season and it is worth checking out.
